As painful as this Ottawa Senator’s season has been, I find comfort in this last quarter of the season for once. I still have fingernails still since the Sens are nowhere near a playoff run, but I have conflicted thoughts when watching games now. I’ve gone from cheering on the Sens to hoping they lose in regulation in a time span of 5 minutes. It now is a win win situation for me; a win makes any fan feel good, but a loss hopefully puts us closer to a top 5 draft pick. I hate to say I don’t care if Ottawa wins or loses, but I hope to draw the line there shortly.

The last two games, the Senators have looked like the team that brought us oh-so-close to Lord Stanley. The offense has been magnificent, the goal tending has been iffy (hopefully LeClaire will bring some much needed net minder talent to the ice next season). This kind of play brings me joy and hope for the next few seasons, knowing that Ottawa still has what it takes to be a contender. But this is a case of too little, too late. So why not tank?

As a devoted Senators fan, for the first time ever, I will be hoping those blue shirts win a game in the Battle of Ontario. A loss tonight will futher propel Toronto into a mid-round pick and help secure a great pick that Ottawa needs to move this team forward in the new salary cap NHL.

Can you imagine Ottawa with Tavares? The rest of the league should just forfeit the 2009-2010 season if that happens. I think realistically, Ottawa will end up with 5-6 pick. If only they would stop winning, teams like Colorado, Tampa Bay and Atlanta would pass them up since their play as of late has been spectacular as well. I think its foolish to hope for #1 as the Islanders aren’t even tanking, they’re just that bad. But with some luck and a little less effort, Ottawa could easily come away with a top 3 pick in a very talented draft.

It hurts me so much to say the following, but it needs to be said for the sake of all Ottawa Seantors fans and future fans. GO LEAFS GO!
